Fastest growing union in the UK
We are pleased to say that this union has again opened new grounds of representation and commitment to the rail community.
Early 2010 saw our membership base increase by 50 percent. Naturally we are not the largest union but on the face of it; a growth of 50 percent would make ATCU the fastest growing trade union in the country with new branches continuing to open throughout the UK, the latest being at Leeds.
ATCU, the new revolution in the rail industry
As we face one of the biggest economic challenges of our generation it is important that rail unions come together in the protection of the rail community because it is the community which is the primary factor to why we are all here. One way of doing this is to join ATCU's policy of ‘One union, one voice’.
One union, one voice means coming together into one distinct identity. All workers, be they signallers, cleaners, caterers, drivers, conductors, track worker etc, will become one family, protecting and caring for each other, it will be a rail union for all rail people.
Of course there will be obstacles. Companies tremble at the thought of such a move, preferring to remain with the status quo. These unconstructive Victorian thoughts by the companies are unjust and worthless.
However, the primary obstacle to one union is our own determination for this to happen. It is only the workers who can make it happen, the very people who are at the forefront of this great industry.
