28 August 2009 Travel overcrowding for mid-Essex rail could end within two years. Timetable changes and extra carriages on most peak services through Chelmsford, Hatfield Peverel, Witham and Kelvedon are on the way in a major shake-up by National Express East Anglia. It means weekday rush-hour services to London Liverpool Street will have 11,000 more seats for passengers – music to the ears of thousands of commuters who are often forced to stand on packed trains.
