07 December 2011     Tax allowance on working clothes/uniforms

Workers who are provided a uniform which has a logo of the company can claim back a tax allowance for cleaning which can be back dated for 6 years.

Such a claim will be dependent on circumstances:

• Does the company have an agreement with the Revenue & Customs? If so, then the tax will be adjusted in your pay tax code.

If not: As long as the company provides a uniform with a logo and if they do not provide costs to cleaning or cleaning facilities then you may have an entitlement which could be back dated 6 years.

In this case each individual will have to claim by calling the Revenue and Customs on 0845 300 0627 for this year.

The usual cost of tax relief is £100 per annum.
